Hello,
I have a 1980 RT 100 that I replaced the points, the rotor, and camshaft seal recently. In reassembling everything I have been unable to move the plate in the distributor that retards, or advances the spark,,, I have loosened the one screw that holds the points, loosened the two screws that hold the distributor to the crankcase, but still no luck. What am I doing wrong? Thank's for your help!

Best Wishes, Bob

Points

I have had it that the point plate slot which is suppose to let you rotate the plate advance/retard is not elongated enough to let you do that. It turns out they were aftermarket points, crap. But I got them to work by filing the slot until I could move the plate to the required position.

Something must be binding. I'd suggest removing everything, inspecting, and starting over.

On points models, there should be no reason for elongating the slot. It's best that the points gap be changed...a small change in points gap can make a big difference in timing. If the points are not standard, probably best to get something that is OEM.
