1976 R75/6 - Clutch Neutral Lockout Switch?

Good afternoon,

Does anyone have any idea where the neutral indicator switch is on a 76 BMW R75/6. Over a brief conversation, a chap who is very familiar with Airheads said that Check to see if there is a neutral lockout for the starter on the clutch lever. Because of time restrictions, was not able to gather more information and thought I would come here to ask the masses.

Went back to the shop and have found what he was talking about as it starts out from the neutral switch BR/WS to control panel 85b which branch's to LKK that has a BR/GE that leads to Neutral Switch towards the rear of the machine. I don't ever remember this neutral switch when I dismantled it doing the ground up restoration! Also the wire colours only match from the neutral switch at the bottom of the transmission being BR/SW.

There is a switch on the clutch lever and that will disable the starter if the bike is not in neutral and the clutch is not pulled in. If the bike is in neutral, the switch does nothing. I think I have a picture of it. If I find it I will resize and post.

If this worked, you can see the wires (with a sleeve) exiting the base of the clutch lever.

This should be a picture of the switch with the clutch lever removed and another of the switch removed. I hadn't figured out how to get the camera to focus where I wanted yet!

The part you're referring to is p/n 61 31 1 243 403. My clutch switch broke during disassembly about 5 years ago and I ran the bike without it for about 3 years before finally replacing it (the bike will start as long as the bike is already in neutral and your neutral switch is working). Not difficult to replace and while I replaced it I also replaced the nylon bushings at the levers.

Note: On my /6 I didn't have that plug/terminal on the bike to connect the switch to, instead I just cut the plug off, put regular terminals on it and connected them to the appropriate colors on the headlight circuit board.

Thank you for the response. I went back to the photos I took of the R 75/6 when I was taking it apart and clearly see the smaller wire from the switch. It beats the H*#l out of me where I may have put it, as I have every nut, bolt, spring washer etc, etc! But no wire. Searched all day and finally gave up and called my supplier Blackfoot Motor Sports and ordered a new one.

Thank you for giving me light to turn in sorting it out. Appreciate the pictures everyone sent.
