    Question about RT's

I sold my GTL mostly because it was too heavy. There were a lot of things I liked about the GTL but the weight got me down. Now I see the RT is significantly lighter. I am in the hunt for this to replace my GTL. I had a LT and the problems with the ABS made it hard for me to love. Do the 1999...

    ABS Lights 2004 R1150RTP

Greetings, I bought my 2004 R1159RTP from a police auction with ~35k miles. I stripped out 10 lbs of police wiring, and much to my surprise it started right up! (I feared I would remove something crucial and would brick the entire bike.) It seems to have been well maintained. This summer...

    Troubles with my 04 R1150RT

Hello, Looking for some words of wisdom on the problem I had today. Yesterday we rode 270 miles without a hitch, today after about 60 miles my R1150 RT had what I'd call a total electrical failure, in traffic. After getting a ride home, we tested the battery (13V), check the kill switch and...

    How to Improve Passenger Comfort?

I'd like to improve the riding comfort for my wife when she rides with me. She has two issues - 1) "nothing to hang on to" and 2) comfort (width) of the seat. We ride with the truck with integral backrest and she uses the side grab handles. Any upgrades y'all have done? And no bad comments...

    Switchback LED Bulbs

2004 R1150RT with Kisan Signal Minder with clear front turn signal lenses. Has anyone used a switchback LED bulb with a signal minder? I was hoping that using the running light function on the signal minder with a switchback LED bulb would give me what I want - a wide, white running light and...

    '04 R1150RT Transmission Oil Recommendation

Hi All - What is the current thinking on what transmission oil to use on my 2004 R1150RT? I reviewed posts that I could find on all oilheads. It seems that Mobile 1 (75w140) might be better than BMW recommendation (90W?). I am hesitant to go to RedLine Heavy, but could quiet shifting. No...

    2003 R1150RT lighting upgrade

Over the winter I upgraded the front lighting on my new-to-me 2003 R1150RT. This was prompted by my first (and only) ride home on the bike after dusk, one week after I bought it last November. The headlight was abysmally dim. After doing a little bit of research I discovered it wasn't a problem...

2001 R1150RT ABS Pressure Module failure

I am looking for opinion if it is worth spending to get my motorcycle repaired!!... I am not a mechanical expert and I have always relied on my service tech to counsel me on repairs and such!!. I just moved to Calgary, Alberta and had to find a new dealer. I found one and I have been happy...

    2003 R1150RT brake saga and a question

This past November, after being away from motorcycling for almost 30 years, I bought a 2003 R1150RT. The bike looks and runs nice and the price was certainly right. The seller owns a vintage cycle shop (sells, repairs, and restores vintage 60's, 70's, and 80's bikes, mostly Kawasaki). Turns out...

Looking to add speakers to my 2004 R1150RT

Having enjoyed my last BMW, a 2002 R1150RT with an upgraded stereo I was hoping to do the same to my 'brand new used' 2004 R1150RT. I read that in 2004 BMW did not have the option for speakers/radio. My question is, once I have it apart (it's very cold in Boston) and I find that in fact the...

new member in Door County, Wisconsin

Hello everybody, this is my first post. I hope it works correctly... I just renewed my membership with BMW MOA for the first time in 25 years. Yep, I used to be a member in the early 1990s when I lived in San Francisco and owned 2 K100s and an R75/5. Back in those days I was obsessed with long...

What should I ride 1150RT or What?

I recently purchased a 2004 R1150RT; I am 5'6", 29" inseam, 180 pounds, healthy 70 year old. Of all the bikes I had over 20 years, my favorite was this one. I sold it after I dropped it 3 times in a parking lot because it is top heavy. Now 11 years later, I decided to buy a similar 1150RT again...

    04 R1150RT Fuel Tank

Spring project ... new internal fuel lines, new fuel pump / sock, new fuel filter and new a gaskets all around. Everything going well. Internal tubing was original and seemed to be in better shape than I anticipated it would be. Anyway, changed it out since it was ~12 yrs old. New pump...

Installing a high power stereo in my 2002 r1150rt

After reading some posts, I decided to install a high-power Pioneer stereo in my 2002 R1150RT. When I bought the bike, it had no radio but the the wires were all present. After a poor attempt at installing the radio without removing the fairing, I realized that removal is necessary in order to...

    Back in the saddle again.

    2002 R1150RT - Throttle Body Cleaning

This is related to a post I started on R1150RT Surging issue. Last night I found a faulty lower O-ring on one of my injectors. They are currently in the mail to MrInjector.us. While I have the bike this far apart, I am contemplating cleaning the Throttle bodies, but I can't seem to find any...

    I trust my 2006 R1200RT

I've owned a few bikes in my years of riding. Yamaha, Kawasaki, and BMW. For the BMWs, I've owned a 1996 R1100RT, worked as an officer on a 2004 R1150RT, and owned a 2007 R1200RT and now a 2006 R1200RT bought from a dealer here in Jacksonville 2 weeks ago. For all the complaints I tend to find...

    Fuel Pump Test

Hi - 2003 R1150RT - I was riding and it stopped, like someone turned off the key. It has spark to both plugs, ABS, lights, fuel gauge, etc work. Plugs are dry (no sign of fuel). The fuel pump relay clicks like it is working. How can I test the fuel pump? Thanks Pete

Value of replacing most of the brake fluid in a 2004 RT?

I like to use the local motorcycle shop for routine service work. They have done a routine motorcycle brake fluid change, which changes out most of the fluid in the front and rear brake lines. I did this before I realized you need to remove the gas tank to access all 3 circuits since it has...
