I am doing the 12,000 mile maintenance on my 2012 R1200RT and I cannot find a reliable reference for the volume of oil to add to the final drive. I don't have the maintenance DVD because I use Apple computers. One post on this forum (in the Tech Library) called for 180 ml while another said 220 ml.
Some references elsewhere on the internet say that BMW issued a bulletin changing the volume to 180 ml because the earlier required volume of 220 ml created too much pressure and can damage the rear oil seal.
Can anyone answer this definitively?
Also, I purchased Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube for this purpose while the Tech Library shows Castrol SAF-XO or BMW Gear Oil SAE 75W90 Super Synthetic. The Mobil 1 is not dyed red as the Castrol and BMW products apparently are. Comments?
