What about the waitress?
You know, it's kind of sad. The restaurant had somewhat separate sections; one for "sit down in a nice place" and one for "bar food", although the menu was the same. She was in the bar area. After eating, I walked outside through the bar area, and she was shooting pool with the locals. I got another nice smile from her, and as I walked across the room, I kept glancing up to see her watching me. Of course, it might just be that I'm funny looking and was badly in need of a shave and a shower. I imagine there are VERY few guys my age/her age up there, so it's possible the odds were in my favor. Sadly, I was so mentally/physically drained (yes, that's actually possible), I just needed to go to sleep. I've done the long distance relationship thing before (try US to Belgium), and it's hard. A million times harder when the only way there is a long, long road. C'est la vie.
Now, if anyone is going up there let me know, and I might go back to see if she's still there. Anyone for a new rally; the James Bay Rally? Hail and black flies are free!
I was planning on heading up there this summer. She may have a sister.
Having been thoroughly terrorized by a roving pack of nocturnal Canadian 'striped tree bears' while camping in Algonquin Provincial Park many years ago, I know how idiotic you feel. You wouldn't think that a raccoon or three sniffing at your tent in the middle of the night would sound exactly like a bear ...Outstanding story Josh. I generally prefer pictures over text but this is great reading. I loved the killer salamander. I can't tell you the number of times I too have been scared (expletive) by small mammals outside my tent coming for me.

Keep it coming.
Was that one of those 30 Kg. Canadian ones?
