Flagpole attachment

OK

A crash bar, a tube, and some hose clamps and you are golden. Please, son't over think this. Just make it work.

I see what you mean.
What size flag do you plan to fly?

I have not gotten that far. First task was to find a way to attach a flag pole without doing any damage to the bike. Flag size comes next, although it will not be that big. The escorts can easily have speeds above 40MPH, and that is a huge load with a larger flag. The "kits" I have seen online have fairly small flags, which is OK for me.

Maybe this?

There are others out there. You just need to enter the Harley universe.

I have seen that item when I entered the HD universe via J&P Motorcycles. They had several items, including the one you highlighted. The problem is that the Illium rear guard is 1" diameter, and they only have 1/2".

What I am thinking might work best is a piece of wood shaped to fit in the holes in the rear rack. That would have a hole to hold the base. Then I will need to create braces to hold the upper portion because of the wind loading.

I am looking for some wisdom/experience from the group on attaching a flagpole to my 2015 RT for Patriot Guard events/escorts. Any good guidance on how to do that?

Thanks in advance!

Gorilla Tape?

Do you use a top case?

If it where me I would create a clamp a piece of metal on the back trunk rack and have a telescopic flag pole welded on to that piece of metal from a local welding facility..

For the folks that Think it's only a Harley thing, IMHO I don't believe that to be true....its showing support for the brace folks that make sacrifices for people like me living in USA, And I am proud to show my support on any type of motorcycle.....

Thanks for the various replies, even the clueless ones.

I found and unusual solution to mount a 2 foot by 3 foot flag. The attachment came from an off road enthusiast who sells attachments for marker flags for dirt bikes. They can be found at http://www.zenxteninc.com/. The owner Hank was incredibly responsive. I emailed him and asked if he thought his attachment device would work. He went to the local BMW dealer in Arizona and looked at a display 1200 RT. He then custom made the grip clamps and sent them to me at no extra charge. Check out the photos...

I highly recommend this attachment for putting a flag on your RT. I got the fiberglass pole at the local hardware store and the flag online.

I contacted Hank at Xenten and sent him some photos with a tape measure in the picture. Based on that he built me a support that will either go on the rack of my 2011 RT or on the rack on the top box. I just need to adjust the length of the rubber parts of the mount to go from one mounting point to the other, takes 2-3 minutes. I used it on a recent ride where we had some freeway time and some time with 65 mph cross winds. I had to shorten the flagpole from 6' to 3'. When it was mounted on the top box rack, the wind pulled the flag pole to nearly horizontal. After shortening it, I had a spare flag pole, and it worked very well. I'm very happy with the mount.
