Oil level sensor issue 2018 R1200GS

Good Day everyone, I have a 2018 R1200GS it has an TFT display with 10000 kilometres on it.I live in Sherwood Park Alberta Canada. The oil level sensor only works intermittently and has done so from day one, I've only been riding this bike for six weeks. I trailered it down to Oklahoma in March I had the run-in service completed in Texas and they told me a software update might correct the problem, but would take a couple of hours or overnight as we had accommodation booked we decided to proceed after I was assured that the oil pressure was good, so I decided to get the update back in Edmonton. I was told a software update might correct the problem here as well, but no luck there. Talked to the service manager at my dealership here in Edmonton and it so happened that the Canadian service rep was in the shop and assure me that it is working correctly, and that there some very specific parameters to be met before this indicator comes on page 40 in the oilers manual but also one added parameter of an oil temperature of 85 C.
I have gone hundreds of kilometres with no indication, has anyone been having the same issue and what if anything was done about it. I have repeatedly checked oil levels and it is always good, just getting a little frustrated with BMW I feel like I'm getting the runaround. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry about it, I have probably seen the oil pressure OK sign twice in 60,000 km on my '16 RT LC.
Your bike must meet the criterias to show the "OK" sign: be at operating temp, running idle for at least 10 seconds, the side stand retracted and the bike at the vertical.
On mine, it normally shows the "---" impossible to measure the oil level sign. Unless you get the "CHECK!" engine oil level, I wouldn't worry.

Ok thanks that's what they have been telling me. Just seems to be a useless sensor then. They're also saying the the sensor will alert me if the level gets low.

Welcome to the forum.
If I understand you correctly you do not get a low oil warning.
If you get -- because all the criteria has not been met to check the oil level there's nothing to worry about.

It's best to use the oil window to check your oil.

Some Wethead owners get false low oil warnings and my wife and I have 2 of these bikes.

Thanks Lee, I always check the oil before I roll, I just assume the sensor would always show a status I’ve only ever had the OK signal or the dashes
I picked up a telescoping mirror to see the level when sitting on the bike sometimes hard to put the bike on center stand when loaded up with all my gear

It's the same thing with checking tire pressure on the dash.
The bike needs to roll a certain distance over a certain speed before the bike can get a signal from the TPM in the wheel.
If you try to check the tire pressure in the driveway the display only shows --

I don't find it very useful either. But then having just a low oil pressure warning is also not useful. If you have a low pressure warning, you have a problem!
BTW I've never had to add oil between oil changes. The wetheads aren't oil burners.

Just so there's no confusion, when you get the "OK" or "Check" it's referring to the oil level not oil pressure.
Don't want anyone freaking out when the oilcan displays with "Check"
