Burgers

Each year the Des Moines Register chooses the 10 best burgers in Iowa.
Here's the list for 2017.

The list, in alphabetical order:

Ankeny Diner, Ankeny
BeerBurger, North Liberty
BW’s Burgers, West Des Moines
Doc’s Stadium Bar & Grill, Jefferson
Down Right Delicious, Clarinda
Elm’s Club, Creston
Saucy Focaccia, Cedar Rapids
Smokin’ Hereford, Storm Lake
The Irish Shanti, Elgin
Vaughn’s Café and Bakery, Clarinda

Doesn't The Gunderburger qualify?? Gunder. Iowa :)

A couple of thoughts after living in Iowa City for a couple years.

1. If you've never been to Amish country, I'd make some stops around Kalona, IA which is just south of Iowa City. Any local gas station will have a map of local farms/stores selling goods.

2. John's Grocery in Iowa City has a beer selection that will rival almost anywhere.

3. If you're making your way over from Burlington on US34, cruise around Fairfield, IA - home to the Maharishi School of Management and the golden domes. An interesting place in the middle of the corn fields of Iowa. Also, one of the few places outside of the college towns where you can get a decent vegetarian or vegan meal.

3A. The American Gothic House (from the famous painting) is close too

4. If you're coming from the northwest, stop in the Ice Cream capital of the world - Le Mars

5. The Amana colonies are also a neat place to spend an afternoon - big family-style meals will help you prep for all the walking at the rally!
