Chuck Manley Passed

That photograph is chilling. Four of eight gone. And unless I am misinformed, all four from cancer.

Which is exactly why when Tina was diagnosed, I chucked it all and got busy raising money for Team in Training and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

I've had a good up close look at that and anything I could do to help stop that from happening was where I needed to direct my efforts. I was seriously saddened to learn about Chuck's passing. When I was on the board, I could always count on Chuck for reliably pragmatic decision making that was always focused on the club members' experience first.

Another greatly valued mentor.... he went out of his way to listen and consider what people had to say. He genuinely cared. I really miss that guy. Some of what we did together was in my professional capacity wrt the MOA's intellectual property. He took some important actions as President to protect the members' interests.

Also in the pic are Karol Patzer and Michael Friedle, a couple of other pillars of the club.

He was president when I was elected VP and was gone but a few months later. I talked to him briefly after the rally, but it was evident that he was very, very ill and the club was, at that late point in his life, over and done with. I was lucky that Deb Lower was there to give me a hand and help be get oriented into being president. My very first meeting with the board was when we got together to interview potential editors for ON after the whole Sandy Cohen thing blew up, leaving a mess we had to clean up.
