2018 R1200RT Mirror Question

Howdy Everyone!:wave

I have a 2018 R1200RT that has a nice scratch on the right mirror cover (back side of the mirror). I have a replacement in hand. I have been reviewing the shop manual and other information online and it is not clear to me if I have to remove the mirror in order to replace it. If I recall correctly it does come off and has a tether attached to it.

Anybody have any experience with replacing one that can shed some light? I don't mind taking the panels off, but I'm trying to avoid doing unnecessary work that would prevent me from riding on the weekend.

Thanks,
David

There are some diagrams here in the forum about how to remove the headlight assembly. These diagrams show the series of things that need to be removed to get to the mirror assembly bolts. Its tedious, but not difficult.

sorry that I don't have a specific location, but I got the diagrams either in this forum or in the BMWLT forum.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I was able to determine that the answer is "Yes" you can remove the cover plate from the back of the mirror on a RT Wethead without having to remove the panels and/or mirror from the bike.

First "bend" in the mirror to give you better access to the plastic at the bottom of the mirror and then gently prior from the bottom up and out (away from the bike) to remove it from the three clips. It is tethered to the bike with a cloth cord.

If replacing the piece (as I am), re-attach the tether and then slide the cover back towards the bike and make sure that the clips engage in the slots. :clap
