Harley's Latest Effort (Debacle?) At Attracting Younger Riders

Still...they must be doing something right. During the last decade most ( not all ) of my riding has been between Colorado, St Louis and Chicago - in no particular order. When possible I choose the two-lane roads. I'll bet I've seen five Harleys for all other brands combined. Kind of tangentially - how come I never see Goldwings anymore ?

Because they don't sell well? At least not like HD baggers. Most Honda Dealers would get excited to sell 5 or 6 Goldwings in a season. HD dealers will sell that many baggers in a day.

Like it or not, Harley still outsells any other, heck probably all other manufacturers combined when it comes to serious touring bikes. I believe Honda outsells everyone when it comes to shear number of units, but tossed in that pile is scooters to sport bikes, to four wheelers and so on.

I have noticed a severe decline in the numbers on motorcycles on the road of all brands. 15 years ago when we went out west there was a steady stream on motorcycles. It was rare not to have motorcycles meeting you, at least you could always see some coming down the highway. The last couple years it feels like we are the only ones traveling there are so few machines. I could ride for miles and never see another motorcycle.

We went for a 250 mile ride yesterday. Saw one BMW and 15 or so Harleys in three groups; the BMW rider was riding with some Harleys. HD is still the most common like to see on the road in west central Montana. When the local HD riders hold a poker run there are what looks like 100+ of them on the road and parked at the bars where they get their cards and have a refreshing lemonade.

Would that be Mike's Hard Lemonade perchance?

Just to clarify - That's for USA. WW, HD doesn't make as big a dent in the number of units sold. Talking to industry guys, Ducatis sell in CA and NY, with one unit occasionally sold elsewhere in the rest of the country.

Some interesting info here - ATV/UTV sales were up 26% and 2-wheels down 10%, Honda and Polaris taking top sales in the US last year.
