2013 K1600 GTL fuel indicator fail

I took my bike for a spin today after three weeks under cold weather here in El Paso, first thing I notice was I had a full thank
But the trip meter was around 189 miles! So after some 35 miles into the ride I stopped for gas, sure enough: it took almost 6 gallons.
The gauge got frozen? Could you please tell me what might happen?
Gauge “under the weather” or just simple broken.

Up here in Canada a little methyl hydrate in the gas usually does the trick for most gas related freezing problems.
