1996 R850R/R1100R windscreen options without sacrificing clock and tach.

Good day,

I recently acquired a nice 96 R850R which included the optional tachometer. This unit bolts on to the stock windshield frame. However the stock windscreen generates a great deal of helmet wind noise for me so I would like to remove the screen or add a smaller screen just to protect the instrument cluster. My research has revealed a dearth of options. It seems I can remove the stock screen and dispense with the tachometer or stick with the stock windshield and look at lip attachment or other modification to clear the turbulence above my helmet.

May I ask if anyone has creative solutions or has found other windscreen options for the first generation R850r/R1100R?

Thank you.

Be well, ride safely.

I had the Aeroflow screen on my 1995 R1100R when I had it. Funky appearance but it functioned great.

you could try cutting the one you have down, or add a lip to the top. I added a laminar lip to my r1100rs and it really helped with the noise.

On my 2000 R1100R I added a Laminar Lip to the stock screen and it worked really well. That is the first option I would try if I was you. Not that expensive.

The stock screen was bad for buffeting, but the Laminar Lip cured that. I went on a 6000 + mile trip with it and it worked really well.

Good morning,

Thanks for the advice. I will try a lip addition first to see if that solve the issue.

Be well, ride safely.
