1984 BMW Last Edition Fuel Tank or paint source

I just picked up a nice 1984 R100 Last Edition, but the original tank was missing.
Previous owner said it had rusted thru when he got it.
If no tank shows up, where can I find paint for a replacement tank?

Welcome to the forum! I've taken the liberty to edit the title to remove the "WTB" as it is forum policy to not solicit to buy or sell within the forum area. It is fine to ask if anyone has a source for the tank or the paint and maybe someone out there has a line on one and can give you a lead. You may also want to consider placing an ad in the Marketplace using the link at the top of the page.

Good luck!

An automotive paint and body shop that uses BASF paint (the parent company for Glasurit paint) should be able to match your paint with the code. The problem with painting one part (as opposed to all of the bodywork) is that paint fades over time, so the new paint may be brighter than the other body panels with the original paint. Depending on the condition of the paint on the other panels, it may not be noticeable. When you have the tank painted, I'd bring them another panel to have for comparison to match. If you are having the tank pinstriped as well, be sure to get the code for that also.

Holt does good work (he painted my K75), but I had equally good work done by my local painter color matching the lower engine spoiler (pic here at post #22), so it may be worth looking around. The same local painter did a really nice job on my R100RS (post #3496).
