    Cool Dakar 2021 It's starting!

Looks like tonight on NBCSN, it's stage one of the Dakar Rally- Jeddah to Bisha.

    Full site- https://www.dakar.com/en/

I don't know how this will be....hasn't been the same since the world really stopped getting along and things shrunk from the old Paris-Dakar.

Anyway, still some magnificent riders on machines with some wild technology.

I would like to attend the Mint 400 or a Baja race at some point....

Let's enjoy the race for what it is and hope that all the riders survive this year.

I've been sending $$ to privateers in the Dakar for over 10 years now. I'm pretty disappointed that they went to Saudi Arabia and what that country represents in the world of human rights. Right now I'm having a hard time supporting it but I will tune in to see what's happening. I was happy to see Toby Price take the top spot on stage 1 today.

Arguably the best place to keep up with it, certainly for the bikes is on ADVrider.com where the official Dakar F5irehose has people following nonstop and filling in details from all over the world. In past years it was one of the busiest threads on the whole internet, absolutely mind boggling. Thankfully it's calmed down a little but it's still a great place to hang out and follow the action. The crowd that are the mainstays of this thread are extremely knowledgeable about all things Dakar and keep it all in perspective.

If you're interested go tune in over there and you will see what I mean about fully up to date stuff. This thread only opened on Tuesday and it's already up to 22 pages and as I said before it's calm these days. In the old days it would be triple the traffic.

    See you there.

    Thanks for sharing the links!

I still remember with fondness frigid Januarys in Kansas when Paul and I would huddle around the TV to catch the half hour recap of the day's adventures in the desert.

Hi Voni, the thread is rocking on at page 42 now stage 2 is in the bag. Some pretty interesting highlights already this year with a couple of top riders either out or way back in the field due to mechanicals.

Not very many women this year either and one of them is already feeling the snowball but all of the ADV crowd are cheering for her.

The nice thing about following the thread you can jump in anytime and not be bound to tv schedules etc. One report said there is some North American coverage on TV but I don't know where or when.

NBCSNís coverage of the first 2 stages were well done

I enjoy the interviews and the back-stories.

Nice to see the officials were ďmasked-upĒ setting a good example......under harsh conditions.

I can't watch NBC as I don't have a TV provider. No big deal we haven't had coverage for years. Plenty of videos on the thread. By "thread" I'm referring to the ADV one.

I'm just glad that Leigh Diffey is not announcing this year. Never really did like his delivery.

I think a little of both. Of course, the person who opens each stage is clearly on his road-book until they get overtaken. I thought they only had a mechanical road-book attached to the handlebars. But Brabec said he got lost on some kind of errant GPS signal.

Dunno...Texas is only about 1/3 the size of Saudi Arabia. There would be too many tight turns and double backs! Heck, maybe they could just do it all on the freeway system in Dallas!

Virtually all of Texas is private property - unlike much of the BLM land further west. It require literally thousands of easements to cross all of the needed properties.
