New Shoes

I never understood the theory, after watching Moto GP races, that new tires have some coating on them and need to be scuffed in before they go to max traction. Is this what happened to you?
Granted those GP guys go out with warm tires, but they seem to go into the first corner at 160+ just fine on brand new tires. ?
What gives?

From what I've seen, they go out for some warm up laps and then come back to the starting grid. Not sure if they change tires at that point. But then there's one more sighting lap prior to the green. Wouldn't that be enough for them to work all the "new" off of the tires?

Other than Round and Black there’s really no comparison between the street tires that we buy and the tires that are used on MotoGP or other race bikes. We’re straying from the original point of this thread.
