Throttle hanging up with cold engine R1150R

After sitting for a couple of weeks without use my 2002 R1150R with about 62,000 miles is exhibiting a perplexing behavior on startup while cold. Blipping the throttle causes the engine to rev more than normal and to hold the higher revs for a longer period, although it returns to normal idle in a couple of seconds. This behavior disappears once the engine reaches normal operating temperature. Any ideas on the cause?

Mine (2000 R1100RS) did the same a few years ago. I pulled off the handgrip and cleaned/lubed the grip cylinder with white lithium. That took care of the problem. You also want to be sure it's not just the Throttlemeister if you have that, but since you observe it only on cold starts, that probably isn't it.

Incidentally, if you have heated grips, read up on how to remove the handgrip on that side so you don't ruin the heated grip like I did.

Leaking intake manifold which expands as the bike warms, which then stops leaking?

Yes, a vacuum leak ANYWHERE (do you have the charcoal canister? or if it was "lost", are the bottom hose connections on the throttle bodies capped?), or maybe valve adjustment.

The sudden onset of the issue after sitting unused for a little while made me suspect a fueling issue. I added some Techron-based BMW fuel system cleaner. After a few miles, the problem has seemingly resolved. Thanks for the suggestions, though.
