What is the largest / best size tires to put on a monoshock RS?

Tires for '89 R100RS

My bike is a 1989 R100RS. I don't have a manual for it and the rear that's on it just looks so skinny. Anybody have the specs for factory recommended size?

Tire – Front: 90/90-17
Tire – Rear: 120/90-18
EDIT: My source (https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcyclespecshandbook/bmw/1989-BMW-R100RS) is different than Kurt's. I'll defer to Kurt's superior knowledge of airheads.

Michelin Pilot Activ
Michelin Pilot Activ are excellent airhead tires. Stick with the OEM sizes and get over the rear tire looking too skinny. Fitting larger tires on these bikes has a noticeably negative effect on the handling. Both wheels on the monos are 18 inches in diameter.
Front - 90/90-18
Rear - 120/90-18
And don't run them with gobs of pressure like so many people do. 30psi front, 32psi rear for one-up with no luggage is a good starting point.

Couldn't agree more. Stay with the oem sizes. I once put larger sizes on my /5 and couldn't believe how heavy the bike felt.
