Givi Tank Lock Ring

My 97 RT spends a lot of time in the sun waiting for a ride. Do I need to worry about the Givi Tanklock plastic ring? or is that likely to cause no problems for at least 10 years? Or should I remove it between long trips?

Without knowing what claim Givi may make regarding resistance of the ring to UV deterioration, I will suggest that the rest of the bike would benefit from a cover if it spends extended time in the sun - particularly at higher elevations.

Storage

I'll be storing the bike in an enclosed trailer during much of the Winter so I can take it off my poorly maintained, read that icy, street to clear roads. January and February are fairly dry and cold. As long as I can start the bike, I can ride.

My Touratech plastic tank bag ring has suffered no issues in many years of use. I suspect the Givi unit is similarly robust. Leave it on - spend productive time elsewhere. :thumb

At the same time, Alienhitchhiker's advice is very good.

I would worry about taking off this lock ring only after I worried about taking off or covering all of the plastic switches on the handlebars and the plastic on the instrument cluster.
