I wonder what the IB guys use...

So I've got this Yammy FJR 13, and everybody reminds me that it's the bike du jour for the Iron Butt riders, but I wonder what the heck screen THEY use. The oem is small for LD riding and the tall V-stream causes buffeting. What's the Goldilocks?

That's like asking "How tall are the Iron Butt riders?" Every single rider is different, and a look at the starting hotel parking lot before the gun goes off will demonstrate the windshields are all different heights/sizes/brands.

However, you did get good intel about the FJ13's popularity: it is one of the most common mounts.

BTW, if you were actually asking my opinion about "which windshield is best?", then my answer is: try it without any windshield first, you might like it that way. I experience less buffeting with a smaller shield. Good helmet, good earplugs, quietest ride.

Good luck.

Ask this question over on http://www.fjriders.com or https://www.fjrforum.com or https://www.fjrowners.com and you will get a great deal of input. I had an FJR 1300 for five years and ran a Cee Bailey windshield with a Xcreen deflector on top. There was an area of very calm air behind the screen. A moderate cross wind would disrupt the calm air. When it was hot I could lower the screen and get some air flow. The Cee Bailey screen is no longer an option since they got out of the motorcycle business. I still have several friends in the FJR world and the V-Stream is popular. Perhaps the problem is that you got it too tall.

The FJR is ultra reliable and that makes it popular with long distance riders. Yamaha sells a four year extension to their warranty for under $100 a year (it comes with only a one year warranty). I never had occasion to use my warranty.

2018 New - $13~14,000
2019 New - $16,400
2020 New - $18,000

All with bags and shaft drive.

Porky for my tastes, but an awful lot of value. Especially, in the 2018 leftovers.

The two guys I ride with most have FJR1300s. One rides a 2005 model with a Givi screen. The other a 2014 model with a Vstream. Neither of them complains about noise or buffeting.

I have a 2007 FJR I got new, still run with factory windscreen (I am 5'10"), never considered aftermarket windscreen, but that's my preference. I got my new/old 1973 R75, to keep the FJR company. Did a ride around Lake Superior last year on the FJR from Atlanta. The BMW made the same trip in 1985, when my uncle did it, he started/ended in Marquette MI, not apples to apples, but quite a ride.

I wonder what the IB guys use...Over the many years, mostly BMW's:). Many of them members.
