Mushy rear brake on 18 GS

I’m not too happy with the rear brake on my 2018 R1200GS. It seems like abnormal peddle travel to activate brake and comes nowhere near being able to engage ABS mode. I’ve checked my BMW mechanics DVD and do not find instructions on bleeding ABS unit. Peddle gap to frame is spec so no adjustment there. I’m long way from dealer so would appreciate any help.

Hate to tell you but it is a long standing yet unresolved problem with many GS LC bikes. If you want some history check out this lengthy thread on ADVRider bmw-r1200gs-lc-rear-brake-failures

No separate procedure is needed to bleed the ABS, it's taken care of when you bleed the lines.

I have sometimes gotten the last little bit of air out of a system by keeping the brake applied overnight. Strap the front lever to the grip for the front brakes. Rear brake requires a little creativity with a heavy weight on the pedal, or wood blocks between the pedal and frame to keep the pedal down.

A GS-911 has a test to measure the adequacy of a bleed, but it is not a requirement.
