trailer lights

going too be pulling a trailer with my GT. Is there anyone that makes a plug and play[into bmw connector] for trailer lights? If not, I need to come up with a wireing diagram as the wires are awfully small too poke too find the right ones.

I don’t think you can add trailer lights directly. There have been optical “converters” through the years but I’m not sure that will interface with the computer on the bike.
There are some threads in the “Similar Threads” pane below that may help.
Good luck.

wireing

So ive got the converter to change bike wireing over too 4pin now is there anyone who has actualy done the install??? Those OE wires are so freaking small !!!!!

I have trailer lighting on my 2018 RT. Yes the wires are small, but I found some small self piercing splices on Amazon.

As for going to a conventional 4 wire connection you will need to find a converter to do it and there is not many, maybe a couple out there. I remember running across one or two a couple years ago, but not sure where. Companies that sell hitches typically have the converters.

It might be easier to rewire the trailer to better match the motorcycle lights. The one big problem may be the brake/tail light. On the RT this is one bulb, one circuit. The voltage is pulsed to run the tail light, then full on for brakes. I pull a Unigo so I swapped out the conventional bulbs for LEDs and wired directly to the RT wiring.

Service light coming on could just be a coincidence; e.g. it's time for service. But, if you disconnected the battery during your wiring installation the internal clock needs to reset. If this is the case the service light will automatically reset in a few miles of riding or with ignition turned on.

For those looking for a wiring diagram to facilitate installing an "isolator" for a trailer go to the Skene website. You'll find a good wiring diagram there.
