After market muffler - adjust ECU?

I just bought a 2007 R1200RT with a GPR BMW.23.FUNE aftermarket muffler. It sounds pretty throaty and I am OK with that part, but it does seem to backfire or pop on deceleration. The removable baffle is installed inside it, but not the exhaust tip which would appear to reduce the outlet size. Do I need to 'tune' the ECU to accept this freer flowing exhaust? Will the computer figure this out itself? Is it running too lean and potentially harming anything?

I can't specifically help you other than saying that It seems that some popping on deceleration is common on the modern engines. My F800GS dose it and it seems to vary with outside temperature. Usually specific add on muffler/exhaust systems will include in the instructions whether the ECU needs some sort of re-mapping.

One of the Moderators will move this to the Hexhead/Camhead area later for you.

Good luck.
