G310GS - Nick in Fork, How To Address

Need some input:

My wife's G310GS developed a suspension oil leak on the right fork leg. Inspecting the slider tube, I found a tiny little nick, which I assume caused damage to the seal. Before I replace the seal, I want to ensure the nick/burr is addressed.

I have seen a video of a guy taking 1200 grain sandpaper and rub off some corrosion. I'm thinking I can use the same technique to eliminate the nick. Advisable? I'd hate to have to replace the entire slider tube.

Thoughts?
 
You can sand off the burr, but there will also be a depressed area. Rather than making the tube smooth by sanding down the surrounding area, fill the depression with JB Weld and sand it flush.
