No issues... easy peasy
Just take the NAV VI plug it into your computer and your Garmin app Will recognize it and allow you to register, and update under your account. Takes just a few minutes. It’s the same with a new Garmin.

I don't believe you have to do anything special to update the maps.
In another thread a member warned against buying a used unit because of warranty concerns.
In another forum a member purchased a used Nav VI and he started to have problems with it.
Garmin replaced it no questions asked.
