Having found myself doing a bit of trailering to get service within COVID-19 restrictions (drop-off only) and then a round of by-wire throttle (limp mode) issues........I've had to replace my old ratchet straps due to a ratchet mechanism failure. The old straps were a Walmart or Loew's purchase and had a soft tie end that was just short enough to allow attachment to the bottom triple clamp. Of course, the ratchet failure occurred at 6:30A, so the replacement was the best possible approximation available at the closest big box hardware store. It worked, but just barely. The soft-tie loop end was longer than the old ratchet strap and instead of a simple rubber covered hook attaching to a web loop, the new unit had a flat metal hook with a safety clip that attaches to a metal D-ring. Lots of hardware dangling near the painted front fender with fork leg covers. I made the trip and the pick-up trip in a few days.
But, displeasure at a $15 item or tool is a powerful motivator to the obsessive, so off to Amazon I went and discovered ratchet straps from NZ. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B083TXJ737/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The retail price is ~$30 for a pair, but a 30% discount is offered, reducing the price to $21. The product packaging shows pictures of sheep and proudly states the sheep population, just above a picture of the damaged factory after an earthquake. Just looking at the box, I knew these straps were made by people that I would like to drink beer with. Now, relative to the ratchet straps, the webbing is ~4x thicker than the ones from the hardware store and the ratchet mechanism is much thicker gauge material. The length of the soft-tie end is even shorter than my old straps. I'm optimistic that these will be a good purchase.
