Thoughts on '14 1200 Adv??

I'm an XR guy, but a good friend is looking at a '14 GS Adventure. Anything particular to the bike or the year he should look out for?

His primary use case will be backroad touring, plus commuting in the Bay Area. Any thoughts about the choice of bike??
