Brake light stays on

dddoggett

TX Rider
Have a 2007 650 Dakar. Problem is that the brake light is on regardless of if I have the brakes applied or not. I assume that the front or rear brake switch is stuck in the brake position. I checked the rotation of the wheels and both turn easily so the brakes are not on. Any help here on how to fix?

I think your bike is a single? I can move your question to the “Thumper” section later :thumb

Anyway, the switches could be sticking as I would guess they are getting a bit long in the tooth as well. I would try WD-40 spray into the switches while working the pedal/lever while watching the light. I would do one at a time to help isolate the culprit. WD-40 is usually a help but not a long time cure.
Good luck.

I would pull one wire out of the foot break switch. This way you can tell whether it's the front or the rear brake switch.

Sorry, I put this in the wrong forum. It of course is a single cylinder. I have tried a very thin military gun oil, but probably need something with a little solvency. Will give it a shot.

Brake light stays on--2007 F650 Dakar

Guys, my brake light stays on all the time. I assume it is either the front or back switch that is sticking, but wonder if others have had this problem and how did you fix it? Thanks.

The wire from the rear brake light switch ends in a blue connector with a yellow and a green/black wire. Should be somewhere visible under the seat. Disconnect the blue connector and check the brake light.
