    Front fairing k1200rs 2001 swap

Was just curious is it possible to put a later model k1200rs fairing on a earlier model.
Like putting the mirrors and front clip and windshield from a 2003 for example on a 1998 to 2001 model.
Didn't know if anyone ever tried it. Thought it might be neat for an upgrade if possible.

This has been asked a few times on other BMW forums during last 15 years. My answer is still the same - except for a bit more availability of used parts from "part-breaker" on EBAY, compare to 10 years ago when I first answered the same. HOWEVER, finding some of these parts in non-accidented / good condition can be a challenge.

    My take on this is:
Unless you can find many of the needed parts very cheap, it is NOT cost effective to make this change. Probably much less trouble if you can sell yours early K1200RS and buy a used K1200RS of 2002-2005 instead (Europe / Canada started in 2001 with facelift - USA is 2002 and above). The 2003-2005 K1200GT having same engine will also give you better ergo and same engine.

The MAJOR issue is that you need the NEW TYPE front sub-frame in addition to the newer style nose fairing.
This front fairing bracket (sub-frame) will hold the new wind shield mechanism (part number 1 in this diagram):

As a rough guide, you need these parts to be changed:
    1) front fairing bracket (sub-frame)
    2) windshield mechanism
    3) windshield
    4) nose fairings and 2 small side cover attaching to nose fairing - part number 1, 2 and 5 (left + right) in this diagram:

Installing these will also require removing most parts in front of main ALU frame and will require minor change to wire harness (front flashers).
There are other traps in the process as BMW also made minor changes to large LEFT side fairing (near front attaching point), so you main left fairing will not fit without minor mod.

Nothing is impossible if you are patient and handy, but NOT cost effective as I said earlier...
