R1200S Hyper-Lites Install Help.

Greetings fellow riders,

Here in NC we have been asked to stay at home for the next few weeks because of the coronavirus. I had been putting off installing a set of 3-way hyper-lites for the past few months, but now seems like the time do it.

I wanted to see if anyone would be able to help me out. I'm not very good with the electrical side of motorcycle maintenance and I don't want to screw anything up.

Should I make the assumption that...
Hyper-Lites - Gray w/Black Stripe = my White w/Black Stripe
Hyper-Lites - Gray w/Yellow Stripe = my White w/Orange Stripe

Can’t really help you but I can say- nice job on the graphics :thumb
I can also say, Welcome to the forum!
Good luck.

I just installed an Admore LED light bar. Admore told me what their wires were, by color. I was on my own to identify the BMW G310 wiring colors for turn, brake, and tail lights. I didn't have a G310 wiring diagram. I knew brown was ground. I used an electrical tester to find each circuit. Turn on key - probe connectors to find 12v+. test another connector while pulling the brake on and off till I see the flash. Ditto left turn. Ditto right turn. It took about 10 minutes to identify the correct wires.

So I would use their guide and look for those wire colors. Verify. If you can't match things up then probe all connectors until you find each wire you need.

Welcome to the forum.

My schematics for the 1200S show a grey/black/yellow as the park/brake light signal, the Brown is ground.
This wire comes from the ZFE and the output is PWM (pulse width modulation)
In other words it normally carries a low period (park level) and when the brake is applied it gets maximum period.

The wire is shown (mislabeled) in your last picture.

Thanks Gary,

I use a opensource program called Greenshot. It works on both Mac, Linux and Windows.

It has a bunch of drawing/annotation features and you can save as.

The biggest advantage is that the images are much smaller and upload better to most forums (less than 5mb).

Everyone I have told about it, downloads it and loves it.

So would my white/black/yellow running to the brake be what Hyper-Lite calls Red Brake Light Power (gray w/yellow stripe)?

Look at the wire closer I believe it is grey black yellow.
Yes that is your brake light wire (as well as the park light)

Greetings fellow riders,

Here in NC we have been asked to stay at home for the next few weeks because of the coronavirus. ...

Just a minor point of clarification, the NC govenor's order regarding "stay-at-home" does allow for "outside activities" including biking. There is no specification regarding the "bike" having pedals or a motor.

The only real restriction is keeping at least 6 foot spacing between individuals.

https://files.nc.gov/governor/documents/files/EO121-Stay-at-Home-Order-3.pdf

Even the local county (in my case Guilford county) stay at home order allows outdoor activities including cycling or biking with the same lack of definition regarding pedal vs motor and at least 6 foot spacing.

Not to derail the thread- around here I read it as EVERYONE should stay home. Even on the TV, Ad Council is relaying the same message- stay home.

My take on this is the government does encourage outside activities for physical and mental health, provided that individuals maintain at least 6 feet of space from one another. The stay-at-home is to keep folks from gathering together and spreading the virus. Use of playground equipment is discouraged as this can contribute to the spread of the virus. Riding one's motorcycle is unlikely to contribute to the spread of the virus (helmet, faceshield, gloves, solo activity) and does promote enhanced mental health. I would forego sharing motorcycles with others or doing test rides.

I looked at the Virginia stay-at-home order and it is similar to that for NC in that outdoor activities are allowable provided that social distancing is maintained.

My day rides are in the NC piedmont area and NC and Va foothills and mountains. I believe that motorcycle riding is compliant with the stay-at-home order intent.

Cute!

But not OK in Brewster County, Texas, unless for an "essential" purpose. But folks can do what they want until they get caught, I guess. Or until they infect their kids or spouse or grandma.

Actually Brewster County, Texas considers an essential activity to include outdoor recreational activities as long as one maintain social distancing requirements of six feet of more.

We've really hijacked this thread. I hope that the OP finally got his brake lights hooked up.

I think that each individual is responsible for taking actions to lessen the likelihood that they become infected or can infect others. Since testing is well below adequate to ascertain who among us has the virus and can infect others and many such infected individuals are asymptomatic and unknowingly spread the virus, it is important to engage in appropriate risk management actions. Some activities such as visiting grocery stores (or receiving delivered orders) are unavoidable. Other activities become a matter of choice. I understand my choices and risk management actions; these may differ from those actions of others. I won't have more to say on this matter.

I guess. I feel that if I was out riding aimlessly that it would possibly add to a “monkey see, monkey do” atmosphere- at least in my area.
This is a big deal and I’m doing all I can to remain healthy and not cause others harm.

Maybe I can move the posts to a new thread called “Should we be riding” and the debate can continue.

Good Lord! HIJACKED!!!!

I had no idea this forum was as bad a PelicanParts (back in the day).

I did figure it out (mostly). I needed to strip the wires back prior to Connector B, Connector A (in my photos) was not what I thought (red herring alert!!!!).

Looking at the wiring diagram its the Instrument and Trip connector.InstTrip.jpg

I am still looking for a switch 12V wire to tap into. I am limiting myself to two beers a day, and I killed one at 2:50p (damn Roy Cooper). To dark in the shed to look any further so now it's (what my wife calls) motorcycle porn time.....looking for the next bike by watching youtube.

The round diagnostic plug has a switched source, recalling green w/ yellow stripe, but not positive. Have used it on many low draw relays or lights. A check with a voltmeter will verify
Up front for info would be the parking light bulb in headlight

On our R12S, only bike we do not have HyperLites on, I went with Kissan ground interrupted flasher for tailight.
Either way you can access all the wiring needed removing the taillight unit and hide the little relay there as well

And threads often drift, just only after some answers come... however, we are in new territory and folks are wandering

Welcome
