R1250RT Wish the top box LED brake light did more.

Hey guys.
My top box LED light only functions as a brake light. My previous FJR had a Givi that had running lights, brake and blinker lights.

Has anyone seen someone reconfigure the wiring to allow the integrated LED light bar to be more useful by at least having a running and brake light function? Or maybe I just have to buy auxiliary lights. Thanks, Craig

I forgo that option thinking the same thing. For that price, it ought to do more.

I have not looked into it, but have thought about re-pinning the electrical connector and moving the top case light wire to the same as the tail light. The top case light is an LED so I doubt the tiny extra load would be an issue. Worst that would happen in the ECM, or what ever BMW's fancy name for it is, won't like it and not function, so be sure to test it well. You will not burn anything up trying it.

I pull a Unigo trailer and have changed the trailer bulbs to LED, then wired directly into the RT's wiring and it functions fine.

You might try reaching out to customer service at Skene. They sell a controller that patches in to the wiring harness and adds functionality to the brake lights. In particular, they have a unique "conspicuity flicker" solution that I like a lot. That might achieve what you want, using your existing tailcase lights.

I have clearwater lights on my 2016 RT, along with the billie jr brake light that mounts onto the license plate holder. I've wondered whether the wires that go to the billie jr could be used for the BMW top case instead to power the brake light, and control its brightness, etc...

Personally I have the older style (Hexhead/Camhead) top case, so the brake light was not an option. I would mount my Billie Jr on that, but I only put the topcase on the bike when I really need it, so I'd have to add some sort of reliable quick disconnect for the wiring for the billie jr.
