    1985 K100RS vacuum switch/fuel pressure sensor/pressure relief valve?

My bike was built 03/85 and has a fuel pressure sensor. It might also be referred to as a vacuum switch or pressure relief valve (for California models-Clymer page 238). It is mounted on the backside of the throttle bodies and the hose runs to a pipe on #1 throttle body. Apparently this was a pre-04/85 item. What did it do that saw BMW fit to discontinue it? Can I just unplug the wires and put a rubber cap on the throttle body pipe?

You’re probably not the first to wonder about that, nor will you be the last. It would be beneficial to future readers who have searched out threads on this topic if you posted a detailed answer to your question. Just a thought,
