Tips and considerations during this time of National Emergency

We had one case in the county for a couple of months. It jumped to over 140 in less than three weeks. Our per capita infection rate is skyrocketing. On a per capita basis the metro area with the highest infection rate is Hanover / Corcoran in California at 1355 per 100,000 people. Ours is higher than that, at 1480 per 100,000 for the county as a whole and over 2,000 per 100,000 for the City of Alpine. We are now at more than double the per capita infection rates in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or Austin and twice that for Texas as a whole. We have tourists to blame for bringing it here, and stupid, careless, thoughtless people for spreading it.

Our problem are the kids are completely ignoring all the recommendations to keep safe.
We now have 15 active cases in or county.
That number may jump because one idiot who tested positive went to two bars last Friday.
The crazy thing, he's the safety officer at a factory here in town.

It is the young here who are causing our surge. The good news is that although the number of cases has more than doubled in the past few weeks, the number of deaths and hospitializations is still stable and low. We had our two biggest days recently and many of the cases were due to weddings.

Good news
Would that test indicate if you had it prior? Thinking anti-body test maybe?

I forgot to ask. It's not mentioned in my email.

Edit: I called in and she said the test only shows if you currently have the virus.

Masks are mandatory for everyone on campus (SFASU) starting next Tuesday, when all employees have to return to work. I'm seeing a few more masks out and about.

Just to be clear, masks will not prevent you from getting the virus. It's a courtesy for those around you.

I am still in shock at the enormity of the virus impact in the US.

Nice to see the new Tractor Supply ads are done with staff and shopper wearing masks :thumb

News flash. After months of resisting the notion Texas' Governor Abbott just mandated masks in almost all counties (if the county has more than 20 Covid cases). Fines of $250 for noncompliance after one warning are possible.

Does that mean wearing a mask anytime outside of your house?

Looks like you can still bicycle and motorcycle ride without a mask.
Wearing a mask while bicycle riding would suck.

Not limiting the desire to venture out seems to have got us to this point.

Just wear your motorcycle helmet with the face shield down. The shield would count as a "face covering."

Texas didn't take it seriously. Abbott opened the state too soon. Now he is closing some things (bars mostly) back up tight. Data suggests that young people and drunk people and especially drunk young people are not very careful and do not care one whit about protecting others. Now Houston is in crisis. They will be looking for those reefer trucks NY had to use very soon. Locally our rate per capita is twice that of Houston. We mostly stay home.
