Stats as of yesterday—this does not include the two fatalities from a head-on involving three bikes on Hwy 14a, where a 22yr old rider blew a right-handler and went head-on into two oncoming riders. No helmets anywhere.

Comparing TTD figures with last year’s day 4 TTD it looks like traffic citations and incidents are down, which would make sense if attendance is significantly down. Somewhat eye-opening is the difference in drug arrests—apparently, this is a real party year. Or something.

Sturgis

In past years I have seen little to no news coverage of the rally, this year it seems like we have daily coverage of everything bad.
I am sure lots of riders who are at the Sturgis Rally also do charitable rides and activities also. It is sad to see so much focus on the stupid side and basically no coverage of PBTF rides for the kids, the many toys drives, The PTSD rides and other local charitable events

Everything is viewed in the context of the time, place, and circumstances in which it takes place. That accounts for the attention paid to an event in which almost everybody is ignoring sound medical and scientific advice as to how to stop a very deadly pandemic.

I think the old news(paper) adage was “If it bleeds, it leads”.
It would be good to hear some good news.

Hmmm..........Declaring everything safe and re-openning the restaurant/bars in June had a bad outcome. Declaring everything safe and packing students and football fans into college towns and stadiums in late Aug and September will............

Insanity - Repeating the same test and expecting a different outcome. Einstein (approx)

Interesting experience

I didn't expect this.......

My wife visited the Ear-Nose-Throat specialist the other day for a continuing throat irritation. The specialist is pregnant. In order to examine my wife's throat and protect the child, my wife will need to be tested for COVID-19 and remain quaranteened for a week prior to the proceedure. Since I'm in the "household" that week long quaranteen includes me.

It's good I'm not currently working.

Don't worry so much. Remember, loud pipes save lives.

Worry? What, me worry? The question was why the press is interested in Sturgis this year more so than prior years. And the answer is because it is a potential spreader event in contravention of sound medical advice.

Well stated Paul, otherwise it would be just another summer, with a motorcycle rally in SD and no press coverage.

PJ's parts has just such a T-shirt.

Yeah, I understand that. It was merely a facetious comment for levity - - i.e. loud pipes will protect them from coronavirus too.:thumb

If loud pipes would kill SARSCov2 virus I would be out removing mufflers from every vehicle I own.
