Camping suggestions in SE Missouri

Glenlivet and I will reach southeast MO in late April. I’d like to give my furry navigator a couple days R&R before we continue south into Arkansas then west. Within the area of highlighted roads in the photo (decent roads per Butler Maps), what are your favorite places to camp? Limited ground clearance and street tires means no rough dirt roads. We’re set up for boondocking but are okay with pay campgrounds as long as we’re not surrounded by screaming kids (or parents screaming at their kids).

What are your faves?

Round Spring north of Eminence or Alley Spring just west of Eminence are both nice laid back kinds of campgrounds.

Thanks!

Followup question: Are reservations a good idea on a weekend the last week in April?

It has been a few years for me in southern Missouri so I don't know the answer. Round Spring for sure is part of the National Park Service. I'd contact them.

160 between Doniphan and Alton is a very curvy fun road.
I had a summer job in 1974 with the Forest Service and remember sever campgrounds on the Current River near Doniphan.
Also check near the Ellen Point River between Daniphan and Alton.

Maybe a local can recommend one.
