Clutch alignment tool??

Greetings, I'm building a 1971 R60/5. I built a 1971 R75/5 a couple of years ago, and bought a clutch alignment tool. The alignment tool I used on the R75 doesn't fit in the R60 clutch. The clutch part number for both bike is the same???? This is a real mystery???

I've never really seen such a tool. According to Cycleworks website, their alignment tool is for "1951-1995 Airheads"...so one size should fit all. Does the tool flip one end of the other? It's clear it doesn't fit, but I suppose you could measure the ID of the clutch plate and the OD of the tool.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I guess there is just too close of tolerance(s) on the tool, and/or the clutch plate. I used emory cloth and sanded the alignment tool until it fit. Yeah, that sentence sounds better than, "I messaged my tool with sand paper until it fit"

Glad you found a workaround. When I had my /7 clutch out, I just used my eye to get the disk more or less centered. I don't remember exactly, but think I didn't fully compress the pressure plate and was able to slip the transmission back in place...which the clutch mechanism installed, I was able to actuate the clutch which automatically centered the disk and the transmission slipped in. I removed the transmission and fully tightened the pressure plate screws. I suppose $25ish alignment tool might have saved me some time, but I was in the middle of it and hadn't thought that fully through!
