2002 r1150r hall sensor with harness

I'm having a no spark problem. Upon removal of my tank I immediately noticed what engine heat has done to my wiring harness....not pretty. The wires going into the hall ignition sensor connection are bare with no insulation left on them so I need the sensor with wiring harness to the plug located under the seat. I am only assuming the sensor itself is bad because I have no way to test it. The symptoms are rpm gauge stuttered at high rpm every now and then a couple months prior and suddenly shut down while riding this morning not to start again. I'm getting no spark at the plugs and the coil checks out ok. BMW wants $400 for the part. Anyone have experience with this? Am I on the right track with this diagnosis? Where can I buy one w/o breaking the bank? Please help me out if you can. The bike has 50k on it.

Yet another option is Cata Dan for either a re-built Hall Sensor unit or a new unit.

Following is a nice write-up on repairing the Hall Sensor, including how to make an inexpensive unit to test the sensors.

On my oilhead (94 R1100RS) it was only the wire insulation that failed in the high heat environment. One could replace the wire with some more suitable for the temperatures to which the unit is exposed. Stranded wire with silicone insulation rated for 200 degC should be adequate. Such wire is available from sources such as -

One might also want some shrink tube capable of withstanding higher temperatures available from several sources -

What Paul said. Iím a satisfied GS Addict customer. The wiring looks better than stock and the turnaround time was short.
