My new 2018 G310R that I picked up at BMW Motorcycles in Richfield (Minneapolis, MN area) and rode home to New Jersey this week. A bit chilly at times (there) and wet yesterday (here) but a great ride. Stopped mid-way for the 600 mile service. Really love this bike.

2003 Dakar

I got the Dakar to keep my airhead company. Like the generous suspension and comfortable riding position. Also, the seating position of my R100RS gets cramped after a while (my bones are getting old) Got a Touratech tall seat and found Jessie Bags on the Marketplace. Plucky motor and a capable motorcycle allows me to keep going when the pavement runs out. Lots of dirt and gravel roads in the Great Pacific Northwest.

Here's my other thumper, a KTM 525 XCW. It's a very good offroad bike having started out as a full race enduro. It's undergone a few evolutions the first having been built for the '08 Dakar. It was cancelled so the bike was never raced.

It was a lot of fun to rip around on if you had wide open terrain.

Shipped it to California when I bought it and rode it in my first rally school with Rally Management Services.

I decided I didn't need a full rally build so I sold the MECA systems rally kit to a guy in Uruguay then put it back close to stock with a different tank and wee fairing. Plus I had the stock seat redone by Renazco.

The next evolution has a new fairing, tank, and seat etc. The build is mimicking RTWPaul's RTW 500EXC build as I was invited to join him to ride Siberia/Mongolia/stans this year which obviously didn't happen. The last we talked possibly I would join him in Africa next year.
