    1150 RT Neutral Light issue

hello I have an issue with my 2004 1150RT. The problem is that the neutral light is not working, this occurred a the same time that my side stand switch stopped working. The bike only has 12000 mile on it and I baby it a lot. Question, has anyone ever had a similar issue and are the two connected? Any suggestions would help. Thanks

No, the two are not connected if it is switch failure. The neutral switch usually fails when oil seeps into the switch and contaminates the contacts. I don't know of any specific pattern for sidestand switch failure. If that were my bike, before I bought new switches I would trace the wiring and unplug, clean, and reconnect any connectors I found. Then if the problems persist new parts may be in order.

I am assuming the bike starts - right?
Does the RID display the gears correctly?

On the 6 speeds the neutral switch is part of the gear selector switch, unlike the 5 speeds that have a separate microswitch to annunciate neutral.

First check that the lamp is functional.

    Troubleshoot as below
Ignition B+ (green black) to one side of the neutral lamp then exits as (brown black) to pin 7 of headstock multiplug becomes (brown violet) to pin 5 of the of the transmission switch plug where it gets grounded via pin 1 (brown) in the neutral position.

Does the RID display any gears, 1-6? It's the Gear Box gear indicator that lights the neutral light AND displays 0 in the RID.

Also, check fuse #1, as it powers the neutral light with key on.

Just a heads up, 0 on the RID is a different section of the switch than the neutral lamp annunciation.
