Cross Country Trip Question

I have a 2000 R1100RS with about 68,000 miles on it. I'm thinking about taking a trip this summer from Arizona to Georgia and back. I've been doing all the scheduled maintenance, put a new HES on, just got a new set of tires, etc. I have not done a spline lube (don't know if it has ever been done on the bike) or a throttle body sync. I've read on this forum of lots of bikes with well over 100,000 miles (I think I saw Paul's have something like 400,000 or something like that). Is there anything I should look at replacing before taking this trip through the summer heat of the south? Thanks for the help.

Have you replaced the original rubber brake lines?
Full brake fluid flush?

Yep. Forgot to mention that. Spieglers. Just completed a brake flush about a month ago.

I would check and lube the splines. A friend and I were over 500 miles away from home when his striped because he didn’t think he needed to check them. Very expensive fix on the road.

Make sure your cell phone is fully capable in all locations where you intend to travel. Lots of plans have limited coverage in the mountainous west. Otherwise, looks like you are about as prepared as you can be. Good luck and have a great trip.

I have had excellent coverage on my Verizon cell phone all over the west, with the exception of one spot in eastern Montana 10 years ago; my riding buddies using other carriers can't say the same.

I have been using Verizon for years. If I don't have service, no one does.

I have two 01 1150's and had a fuel pump lay down at 68,000 on one. Don't know that I would preemptively change but might carry one along..my 2 cents..

Voni's R1100RS is over 400,000 on original fuel pump.

My R1150R was over 170,000 when I sold it - original fuel pump.

Meaning, I might, at most, leave a marked spare where a family member or friend could get it and send it to me in the unlikely event mine failed on a trip. I would not haul it around. Nor an alternator, a starter, nor a final drive.
