E15 is OK now

AFAIK, MN is one of those states (Classic and such) and it goes back to the nineties when the law was enacted. I called my reps many times about going all in ethanol. As did boat owners etc. Today you can find pure gas pumps stating the law, "For classic cars etc.". Don't know the penalty as I haven't got a ticket for filling up my older 150, cuz I don't drive it much these days. Probably a couple hunnerd bucks. We get the regs we deserve. And we deserve exactly what we are unaware of.

First saw it in tiny print on a four grade pump in ND couple weeks back. Had to stop and read each grade sticker. The last on the right said no ethanol. First on Left said E15. Two in the middle, forgot. Some states it's illegal to use pure in anything except classic, motor boats and lawn/ slash commercial equipment. Arm of the law working for da people, common welfare through better bureaucracy.

Is there an actual discussion/debate coming up in the near future? So da people can have some idea how this creates NO climate change? Or global warming? Inquiring minds want to know. Enviro-virtue signaling linking to Religio/shamanism. How far will this progress? Goals keep changing. Like Lucy and Charlie Brown. Here's the ball, now you see it, now you don't. Pay up. Don't forget to pat yerself on yer back.

AFAIK the AMA is the only motorcycle association having ever said anything about E15. I get AMA emails informing what's going on. In general, motorcyclists are not involved in this political football beyond criticizing each other for politicizing it??? In general, everyone except motorcyclists are politically organized.

Read your middle paragragh.........You're blaming a group of people that didn't make the change.

The current administration delivered a big wad of pork to the Ag. Industry and you're rambling on about climate change. Same misguided AMA talking points.......blah, blah, blah, Climate Change........blah, blah, blah, Climate Change, but never a word about the Midwest dependence on growing corn to produce ethanol. If the AMA wants to be serious, don't pander with talk radio dribble, but deal with the economics of our Midwest states. Ethanol is in our fuel because the Midwest needs the money. And, as those states continue to lose population and age, they'll need even more money...........so, higher ethanol blends.

Hmmmmm....your bike requires 89 AKI. Which did you choose?

The outside pumps at this station have 91 AKI no ethanol.
At home I always fill with the bikes with 91 no ethanol.
On trips if the pump does not show the option of no ethanol I fill with 89.

89 has been disappearing in this area. We only have one station in town with 89 and it has 10% ethanol in it.

That's interesting as Pure Gas locator shows lots of non ethanol gas stations throughout the state. Here are just the cities beginning with letter A that have such gas stations. Sorry it's jumbled but ya get the idea. Must be an awful lot of classics bikes, lawn mowers and other limited models running around in the snow to keep all those pumps active. See here...https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MN

Here's a statement from the MN Sec. 239.791 Statute

...(d) The pump stands must be posted with a permanent notice stating: "NONOXYGENATED GASOLINE. FOR USE IN COLLECTOR VEHICLES OR VEHICLES ELIGIBLE TO BE LICENSED AS COLLECTOR VEHICLES, OFF-ROAD VEHICLES, MOTORCYCLES, BOATS, SNOWMOBILES, OR SMALL ENGINES ONLY."

Now how does one read this? I would read it that collector vehicles or those that can be licensed as collectors vehicles OR OFF-ROAD VEHICLES, MOTORCYCLES, BOATS, SNOWMOBILES, OR SMALL ENGINES ONLY. So I'd say motorcycles, regardless of collectors or not can use said posted gas. I''m not a lawyer, but I did sleep in a bed last night...and want my engine to have a good healthy life. Will the gas station attendant arrest me if I'm wrong?

Our gas is E10 with one convenience store chain offering E15 on a few pumps. E85 is rarely found. Non-ethanol can be found in a few areas north of I-80 and west of I-81. I wont pay the rather steep price difference for Non-ethanol.

I'll pay the higher price when storing for the winter. Filled up last week in northern Indiana, 90 octane was $3.29.

Ethanol Scares Me

I guess if BMW says that burning E85 won't hurt the bike, then I'll believe them. But I don't want to leave any in it any longer than absolutely necessary. This Youtube guy may seem a little bit weird, but he seems to do interesting and thorough tests. This one is scary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvS_D4_lF5U

So, even if you use that Ethanol storage stuff, it doesn't appear to be safe.

So I posted, MN has pure gas pumps. I use them. There are restrictions. As noted. The law passed in 1997. Restrictions are supposedly posted on a plaque on the pump. AFAIK, motorcycles are not restricted. So a lot of pure gas is sold where available. Summer more than winter.

This probably because a lot of people called their legislator. As I remember there was a kerfuffle when this was discussed. Which is what should happen with every change. Good on our then legislators for their MN common sense.

I didn't know that my '84KRS could be filled up, until I read the law. Thought it was too new an old bike. Maybe I'll get collector plates. But there are laws about collector plates too.

BMW never said you can burn E85, they said it's ok to burn E15 in the new bikes.
Do not use E85 in a motorcycle.

He used the word IF not since.

I think @bobs_one was posting a hypothetical:

If BMW says that burning JP-4...
If BMW says that burning heating oil ...
If BMW says that burning french fry grease ...
If BMW says that burning nitromethane ...

If BMW said ..., given the reliability of half of what is posted on the Internet I wouldn't believe it.

:scratch I guess the second one on the right is 87 octane E10. But why does it say Super Unleaded? Shouldn't it be at least 91 octane?

In most states there is no enforceable standard for naming fuel grades. In some states it is not even required that ethanol content be disclosed. I am not sure about whether the Feds require the disclosure of ethanol content but I was there when Kansas rescinded the rule that E10 had to be disclosed at the pumps. I filed an objection to the rule making.
