Rubber Odometer Button Cover for Airheads

For my '91 R100GSPD, that little trip meter reset button weather cover has disintegrated and I'm having trouble finding a replacement.

Palo Alto Speedometer says they're out of stock and they referred me over to Euro Moto Electrics to this:

I ordered one but it doesn't fit my little button. My button doesn't look like the one shown on the EME website. Mine doesn't have the little rim around the top of the plunger.

Anybody have any knowledge of this unicorn part???

You could check with Terry Vrla who repairs speedometers. There's also Overseas Speedometer as well as North Hollywood Speedometer. Then there's the various used parts places.

Links/info for these places is in the link in my signature line - the speedometer section and the used parts section.

These guys did a rebuild for me (great job and fast) and replaced that rubber cover, maybe they will sell you one. They are a good bunch i think they would. Give them a call.

Once you get the part there is still the issue of needing to remove the speedo glass to install the new button cover. There have been cases, and my ‘93 GS was one, where the nut on the inside could be unthreaded with the speedo upside down and the new rubber fitted. Very fiddly tho, and poor chances of success. The OEM installation calls for the exposed threads to be deformed once the nut is screwed tight, to keep the nut from dropping loose inside the speedo. It is that deformation that usually necessitates removing the speedo glass to install the new button cover.

You can buy a new cover WITH the threaded holder from Henderson Precision at https://hendersenprecision.com/india..._products.html. They also used to be available from other vendors- I think Bob’s BMW had them at one time.

    Good luck with the project,
    DeVern

Edit— the button covers were NLA from any source for a period of time in the 90s, so the speedo shops sometimes resorted to creative solutions like oversized rubber covers glued to the speedo glass, as was done on my 83 ST speedo during a 90s rebuild. That may be why your button arrangement doesn’t match the parts available now.

Well, I took that (expensive) EME rubber and improvised. I trimmed off the little "cup" that folds up inside, wiped the bottom rim down with black RTV silicone and set it down over the plastic reset button of the speedo. It's stuck pretty good. We'll see how long it lasts.
