    K&N Air Filter - R1200RS

Does anyone have the correct K&N part number for the 1200RS.
I checked the reviews on the k&N offical site and found Part# BM 1113 for the RS. However not sure it is correct from the reviews I read.

I hope someone can answer this without the usual K&N rant

What seems to be the situation with the K&N filter for the RS. I've had good results with this brand of filter for my 1990 k75rt since 1994 with 220,000 miles?

The subject of K&N air filters comes up pretty frequently. Here is a fairly recent thread:https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread...=1#post1157586

The videos linked there provide a good comparison of the filtering capability of different filter types, but can get a bit tedious as the reviewer shows every step of testing every filter. You might watch one all the the way through to understand the test procedure, and then just watch the beginning and results portions of the other videos in the three part series. I've found no tests showing that a K&N cleans the air better than a paper filter.

Other reviews that compare the effects on engine performance might show a 1-2% increase in power with a K&N. So does running with no filter at all.

My personal experience with a K&N is that it produced no noticeable improvement in any aspect of engine performance. After ~1500 miles of urban commuting (minimal dust), I did find the intakes and slides of my carburetors coated with oily mud, so I switched back to the stock paper filter.

Pick your own priority. The stock filter is probably best at keeping the dirt out. The K&N might be able to flow more air (and dirt), providing a small performance boost.

Hopefully, this has not come across as a rant. I seldom come even close to using all the power my bike produces, so I choose my filter based on how well it keeps the dirt out of the engine.

Compare that to the GS and RT filter.
All the wetheads use the same air filter.
