Can overfilling the gas tank lead to impaired fuel flow?

That's not quite the question but here's what happened. I filled up fully the day before yesterday, rode about 3 miles to home, then yesterday morning when I started the bike all was well, but it stalled after about 15 seconds while I was waiting for the bike to warm up, putting my helmet on etc. I started it again, started right up, then proceeded to stall again. Never happened in 41K miles so this was new. I surmised maybe a vacuum was happening in the tank so I opened up the gas cap, restarted and it never stalled again, and ran completely normally for a 40m ride. Is it possible it had to do w/ a vacuum, or what else might be the cause?

Maybe a pinched or blocked vent hose? Carbon canister?
Recall that with some of the singles, the vent hose had to be "re-trimmed" with a cut at an angle - NOT perpendicular to the hose - just so water wouldn't get trapped at the outlet.

Thanks for that. Started right up again this morning and never stalled so I will wait and see if it was just the 24h flu or if it needs a closer look.

Cheers

When I took delivery of my new RT, last year, the dealer warned me not to fill the fuel tank right to the brim. Doing so could cause a vacuum issue restricting fuel flow. The remedy is to open the fuel cap, then re-secure it, closed. Sounds like you intuitively solved the issue.

Happy riding!

My 2012 GS had an oddity, if i tried to top off the tank to allow me two days of getting to work it would start missing and sputtering for a little while shortly after filling up, after that its fine, never worried about it once i knew it wasn't going to stop on me.
