    Charlotte demolition derby nascar

Favorite race of the year. Hat tip to nascar for bringing something to watch besides the mile and a half grinds. Starts in twenty minutes.

I have lost track of the “new” NASCAR points and whatnot. I still enjoy the technology, skill and craftsmanship that makes it work and the patriotism exhibited

They really beat the heck out of the gearboxes on this track. Sequential. Blip bang Big Bang. Maybe airheads could use their tranny oil? Shockproof?

Looks like the Aussies. Later you can pick up the last two minutes of yer NFL team.

I don’t understand the shifting they do on those “gear boxes”. I understand shifting a Mack truck without the clutch.......just not those mated to 800hp gas engines.
I’m not much for watching the National Felony League but I realize that some live and die for football.

I think trannies are constant mesh like motorcycle/beemers. Match revs, shift, or use clutch finish last. IIRC.

If Dave sees this thread, he will know. He helps keep ‘em motoring.

Something from a "reddit" forum...!! Anyway, it appears using straight cut gears and modifications to the dog ring. Still requires (I think) for them to blip the throttle which "unloads" the gears slightly before the shift can happen.

At one time all the NASCAR teams used Getrag transmissions for the road courses. I think Getrag got bought out a few years ago. Other than stop and start they don't use the clutch. If I remember the teams like the transmission for its modular design. They were used in BMW cars for years.

    And in BMW motorcycles too.
