    81 r65 proper oil?

    Just got a 1981 r65 running.

What’s a good oil for it?

    Thanks

Generally speaking, you should look for an oil w/ an API rating of SG/SH which have sufficient levels of ZDDP. If have the March 2013 Owners News, I wrote an article on this. Old Owners News are on the main website page. Spectro has very good oils. Mobil VR-1 Racing oil is up there, too. I believe you should need the 20w50 grade...depending on location and temperatures.

A good 20w-50 SG-rated oil will do nicely. I generally use this, available at Amazon or your local FLAPS:

    https://www.amazon.com/Castrol-06102...1517338&sr=8-3

Just make sure it’s the “Go!” product and not the regular GTX which is rated SL or higher.

I thought the latest from Snowbum was that Castrol no longer has the right ZDDP.

You can get 4 liter bottles of Spectro4 for $29.99 delivered through Amazon.

Castrol GTX no longer has sufficient ZDDP. But Castrol Go or Castrol 4T Motorcycle Oil does.
