    Project Bike

I am retiring in a couple of weeks and want to get an old boxer as a project bike to rebuild. I live in northeast Georgia (Blairsville). Does anyone knows of one for sale near me?

We generally have to be careful of "want to buy (or sell)" posting on the forum as there is no clean-up. WTS or WTB posts last forever here on the forum so years down the road someone could be trying to contact you on your request.
Kinda keep us updated on this and we can try to help you out.
    Good luck.

Near is a relative term. Bikes can be shipped. In addition to the usual suspects, e.g. craigslist and ebay there are some other on-line websites that might be of interest.

Firstly is the MOA marketplace -

The IBMWR marketplace has long been in existence, more recently steps have been taken to reduce the presence of scammers -

In the past I have made purchases of used bikes through both of the above resources. I have had very good experiences, YMMV.

ADV has a global reach. Lots of bikes coming up for sale far and near. Can also spend a lot of time browsing trip reports and other "stuff".

Depending on your experience, you may find of interest some of the following as resources -
http://www.boxer2valve.com/ Note: these guys are pretty close to your location. They also have many helpful YouTube videos available.
https://www.bluemooncycle.com/a-brief-history/ These guys have ready to go restorations available and used to have some cool t-shirts.
https://re-psycle.com/ Many used airhead parts available at substantial savings. I used to live proximate to them and was able to get advice frequently with project bikes.

I have not shipped a bike. About 3 years ago when I was moving from Ohio to NC I considered shipment of bikes. The cost per bike was around $600. I decided to thin the herd a bit and recruited some buddies to help ride the remaining bikes down.

There are a lot of resources available here and elsewhere (e.g., ADVrider.com) where specific info can be found. One place to start is the list found here -
https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread...rces-and-Links Go a ways down the list to find motorcycle shippers.

Here is another list that has lots of links to relevant info -

Also look under Airheads for specific stuff. One feller in particular (Brook Reams) does a wonderful job of documenting his work -

Al, check out this month's AMA magazine. There's a good article re: Shipping your bike. They have some of the "must do's" you need to follow to have a smooth experience, no matter who you choose to ship it for you.

I've never shipped a bike, so I'm not recommending any one to you. Do a "Due Diligence" search and if you choose to have a bike shipped in, good luck and let us know how it went!

I travel for a living and stop and visit a lot of BMW dealerships. Most are loaded with used BMW's. I'd check them to see what's on the floor. I'm thinking they want to sell, it's a buyers market. Cash talks. Your pretty close to more than a few. Good luck with finding your project bike, then getting it built, then riding it.
