If it's only a motorcycle related politics sub-forum, how could it possibly get out of hand.

Said in jest. :laugh

Just a reminder, because it looks like some people think that they would get a "Jo Mamma" style free-for-all sub-forum, like over on advrider.com.

NOTE: This sub-forum "Politics & Motorcycling" would be for the discussion of politics, but only in a narrow focus of how it affects motorcycling, e.g. riders, rider clubs, dealers, vendors, manufacturers, etc.. It would not be a forum to discuss any other type of politics. This was explained in the opening post.

(BTW, as I've stated several times in this thread, I don't want politics or religion discussed on this forum, no matter how limited.)

That'll work just fine...until someone posts on that forum! By definition it is POLITICS and mc...In the last few looks, I've seen posts about helmets, distracted driving , social costs of motorcycling, insurance costs etc...but none were in a specifically political environment (social costs post is getting touchy) so comments have accomplished what you say the forum would...I say it wouldn't because the mere word "politics" allows a broader application of political opinion. Helmet posts might mention "nanny-state" but basically look at if it's rightfully an individual decision, health costs, statistics etc etc...as soon as you say politics I'll believe I have a right to disparage- politely or not- parties and views that differ POLITICALLY from mine. Anyone who thinks that won't happen in an overtly (albiet narrowly defined) political forum is a socialist- I mean a pie eyed lib- I mean a mean conservative.

Just so you don't try to shoot the messenger . . .

This is about the 5th time I've said this in this thread, including the opening post. As stated, I opened this thread out of curiosity. Color me curious if you like -- just don't color me on the side of allowing politics on this forum. I'm trying to be fair to the "other" side. I don't agree with them but I was curious how many members agree with them and want this sub-forum.

I don't want politics or religion discussed on this forum, no matter how limited.

The problem is, politics has infected every area human activity. Whether visiting the washroom or enjoying the forth of July. And certainly motorcycling. Check out the thread about Europe. Such as it is. Because it's about politics. So avoid it as long as we can. The day's coming when you stop yer bike at a stop sign and get physically attacked by whomever for whatever. I don't want politics here. But I'm afraid it is inevitable because someone several decades ago opined, " All is political." Recommend "Explaining Postmodernism", the book, if you want one of just many targeting how we got to where we are. Impending developing chaos. Or just keep heading out for a camp site out and a beer, while you can. Recently departed Fonda made some films about this stuff.

I'm not pessimistic as this morning while stopped at a red light on my super silver '84 KRS, a small boy on a bicycle rode up and yelled, " Is that a BMW!?" Thumbs up. And I thought, "One for the Gipper." Can I say Gipper? However, I may be wrong. Two cents. FWIW.

worth more than 2cents (computer keyboards don't have a dedicated "cents" key anymore?!?). I'm enjoying this thread because it is forcing me to confront the role politics is playing in my conversations. For example: a recent ethanol discussion may have had implicit political undertones, but it was about energy/gallon, possible harm to small engine parts, availability, etc... It never explicitly (AFAIR) got too much into gov't farm subsidies, Oglala water reserve, pollution laws/global warming/blue-red so while I may have been champing at the bit to inject my political opinions- because of the nature of the forum I kinda sat back and learned stuff. Had the word "politics" been in the forum name- I would have been less reserved- and probably alienated the few people who tolerate me around here (or made a few new friends?!?).
