Where does this go? 1985 K100RT

I bought a K100RT in peices with a bad tranny. Sat for 12 years in the PO’s garage. With the help of this fantastic forum, I was able to get it put back together and running well. Love the bike. There is one piece of foam I can not find a home for. I am hoping someone recognizes this part and can tell me where it goes. Thanks in advance.

I know almost exactly where that piece goes. By almost exactly I mean I don't know if it goes on the left side or the right side. It fits behind one of the knee pads, I believe it is the right side by the engine bottom end cover (looks like a valve cover but it is the bottom end). The circular cutout is clearance for a bolt head on a bracket for the fairing. It is just a snug fit to put it in place.

I am changing the air filter tomorrow night and that requires removing the right lower fairing. I will see if I can get this foam to fit as you suggest. Thank you.

It's been years since I change the air filter in my 91 K100LT but I don't remember having to remove the right lower fairing. I believe you can change the air filter by removing just the right side knee pad and possibly the right side glove box.

You nailed it. That was exactly where it goes. Thank you.

I'm glad I was able to help. I've owned my 91 K100LT since it was new and I have done all of the service on it since it went out of warranty so I've had that part out several times over the years.
