    Best.

Brook, Why do you believe Luftmeister was associated with Butler & Smith? I have always connected the name Luftmeister to Matt Capri on the Left Coast. Tom Cutter to the white courtesy phone.

    Replacing clutch kit

Quick question for you knowledgeable folks. I’m rebuilding my 1977 R100/7 and I have three choices for a clutch kit and have no idea which one to get. I don’t care about price I just want the best and most reliable. The choices are “Ei Heavy Duty Clutch Disc”, “Siebenrock/TRW Heavy Duty Disc” and “Ei Oil Resistant Heavy Duty Clutch Disc”. Pros and cons for each? I’m leaning towards Siebenrock since I trust the brand but I literally have no clue in this department. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forum! I replaced my /7 clutch a number of years ago...got my parts from the local dealer. I'd probably do it again if I had the need.

That said, I'm not familiar with "Ei Heavy Duty Clutch Disc"...don't know what "Ei" is. I googled and found something on Ted Porter's website...I guess it's just another supplier like Siebenrock. Looks like the Siebenrock product is also sold by Ted Porter. Who are you getting it from? What recommendations do they give you?

I can't imagine what the differences are. Oil resistant...is something like that really needed? I guess heavy duty is OK...you might not see the insides of the clutch pack for another 100K miles!!

    Good catch

As to if you have a great catch or not, that depends on how much of the restoration you can do yourself. I can't see the bike so I can't comment further.

Wiring harnesses are available from EME, they sell complete sets of 95% of the harness you will need. the main harness being the most important. I have installed said harnesses and can say they are exactly like the original factory sets.

I can also give you a heads up on paint work if you need it. First, you do not have to go to a specific BMW paint shop. Any good painter can paint and a bike painter will be your best bet to get a quote from if there is one nearby. You also do not have to use the original Glasurit paint to match the colors. PPG has a very good selection of BMW paint codes to choose from.

the color code on the rear fender under the seat is not a paint code but a color scheme code. this means the color paint as well as pinstripe color. BM the British motorcycle forum and I think Snowbum's websites cover actual paint codes.

Post some pictures, good luck. St.

I appreciate the reply. I guess they are all basically the same. I just wanted to replace everything new having to do with the clutch.

So does that mean the clutch spring and pressure plate as well?

    Clutch

Not to be a shill for EME but I believe they have a pretty good deal on Clutch and parts price wise. I installed their "package" on my 84 bike and after a few miles am happy. Yeah I know, two different clutch systems, just a thought regarding price. St.

I did my clutch, complete, all components, in 2018 on my '77 R100S. I used MAXBMW and everything was correct with no issues. While in there I did all new seals and gaskets necessary, shaft boots, new felt on the clutch actuator rod, new bolts all around, oil pressure switch, and other items I can't remember. Around 140,000+ miles at the time. I guess what I'm saying for me OEM was just fine.

Luftmeister was definitely Matt Capri; that shop and the Triumph shop he had later were both in this area. Pretty neat guy to chat with.
